Day 1:

Arrival at Bagdogra & Tranfer to Phuentsholing

  • Arrival in Bagdogra by air.
  • On arrival proceed to Phuntsholing, it is a border city on the Indo – Bhutan Border, 165 kms,4hrs, Phuentsholing is a thriving commercial center on the northern edge of the Indian plains, situated directly at the base of the Himalayan foothills.
  • It is a fascinating mixture of Indian and Bhutanese, a perfect example of mingling of people and their culture. Evening free for relaxation or spend time around Phuntsholing market.
  • Overnight stay at Phuntshelling.

Day 2:

Phuentsholing - Thimphu

  • After breakfast, complete the immigration & drive to Thimphu 7 hours drive 176 kms.
  • 4 km ahead of Phuentsholing, visit Kharbandi Gompa - the beautiful monastery situated in garden of tropical plants and flowers.
  • The monastery contains paintings depicting scenes from the life of Buddha and statues of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal and Guru Rimpoche.
  • From the monastery garden there is a splendid view of Phuentsholing and plains of West Bangal and their tea gardens beyond.
  • Proceed further to Thimpu, En route Lunch stop. Five miles, before Thimphu, visit Simtokha Dzong- the oldest fortress of the Kingdom which now houses the School for religious and cultural studies. 
  • Overnight stay at Thimphu. 

Day 3:

Thimphu - Punakha

  • After breakfast visit Kuensel Phodrang (Buddha Statue) a place for refreshing with a huge statue of Buddha on the top of the Kuensel Phodrang, National Memorial Chorten (Monument) & Folk Heritage Museum.
  • Afternoon visit Sangaygang View Point, Changangkha Monastery, Taking Preserve Centre, The talking national animal of Bhutan can be seen here TashichhoDzong (Fortress of the Glorious Religion). 
  • After Lunch drive to low lands of Punakha valley touching Dochula pass 3,100 m and on the stop at Hongtsho village.
  • Stop at the immigration check point to stamp in your permit.
  • Next to the check point you will find small local stalls selling fresh juicy local apples available for sale in plastic bags you could try some.
  • You will be driving through the first mountain pass in the western part of Bhutan.
  • You will find the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens on the top of the pass where the ridges are draped in colourful prayer flags greet you. You could take three rounds and offer prayers, take some best photo shots.
  • If the weather is clear you will be able to see the highest peaks towards the north, GangarPunsum among others is the highest unclimbed peak (24,000 ft) in the world.
  • If you are lucky you could see red pandas, different species of birds, you can take some photo shot close to the natural lake. Proceed down towards Punakha through Thinleygang village and upon reaching Lobesa turn left and enter Punakha valley.
  • On the way have Lunch at Lobesa and take a hike to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple). 
  • This monastery is dedicated to Lama Drukpa Kunley” Divine Madman” known for his outrageous behavior. It was built in 1499 by Ngawng Chogyal the, 14th Drukpa Hierarch. Many childless women visit this lhakhang (Temple) and seek blessings for a child.
  • The existing footpath to Chimi Lhakhang (Temple) passes through beautiful terraces of paddy filed after crossing paddy field.
  • You will come across a Lobesa Village with lots of traditional house. Lobesa Village is situated in valley, surrounded by paddy fields on the way to important Buddhist Shrine “Chimi Lhakhang” in Punakha. 
  • You can very well interact with local people and here also, you can visit some village houses to understand about their life style and proceed towards Chimi Lhakhang (Temple).
  • Drive to Punakha and visit Punakha Dzong which is in the middle of Pho chu and Mo Chu.
  • Overnight at a Hotel in Punakha.

Day 4:

Punakha - Phobjikha

  • After breakfast visit Talo Monastery Situated on a ridge above the Punakha Valley is a serene Buddhist Monastery called Talo Sangngak Choling or Talo Monastery.
  • Talo Monastery is an essential Drukpa Kagyu monastery of Punakha. The source of the Drukpa Lineage stems from the Primordial Buddha Vajradhara, the All-Pervading Lord of the Hundred Buddha Families.
  • Located at a distance of 16km from Khuruthang town, a small township close by Punakha Dzong, Talo Monastery was founded by Chogtrul Jigme Singye (the 4th reincarnation of Gyalse Tenzin Ragbye).
  • The decades old Talo Monastery offers an astounding vista of lush alpine valley with a backdrop view of daunting Bhutan hills or you can trek till Talo Monastery its overall 1 hr walking distance from Punakha Valley, after the drive to Phobjikha Valley.
  • Today is all about the Phobjikha Valley. Start with a visit to Gangtey Gonpa - an important monastery. From there, a beautiful nature trail winds down into the valley.
  • As you amble down the trail, you'll come to the wetlands where the famed cranes reside in winter. If you're still feeling adventurous, the nearby villages, local monasteries, and farmhouses are worth a visit.
  • Finally, wrap up the day with a stop at the Black-Necked Crane Information Center.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Phobjikha. 

Day 5:

Phobjikha - Paro

  • After breakfast we will head to Paro – Chelela Pass.
  • Drive to Chele la-la pass (3988 m), One the way to Chelela Pass.
  • Drive to Chele pass a favourite place for many visitors and is one of highest motor able passes in the country.
  • For the Buddhists, it is also a sacred place to festoon the pass with prayer flags.
  • naturalists, the Chele la ridge offers gardens of Himalayan flowers, plants and of special pheasant species. Water is scarce on these ridges and it is recommended to have enough water supplies with you and again and again drive back to paro.
  •  Overnight at a hotel in Paro. 

Day 6:

Paro Sightseeing

  • Taktshang (Tiger’s Nest) falls in top 20 places to visit in the world.  Paro is a valley of religion and myth. The most famoulandmark, Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest), stands on a granite cliff about 1000 m above the valley.
  • It is believed that Guru Rinpoche, a famous Buddhist saint, flew to Paro on a tigress and meditated at Taktsang. The monastery is   considered a national treasure of Bhutan.
  • The hike to Taktsang would take us around 2 ½ hrs to reach a cafeteria, a point from where one can enjoy great view of the monastery.
  • Those interested can walk further 45 minutes uphill to get a closer view of the monastery. Walk down back to road. The journey downward to the road would take us less 1 ½ hrs.
  • Have lunch in Hotel. After lunch take a walk in Paro Bazar for shoping.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Paro. 

Day 7:

Paro - Phuentsholing

  • After breakfast starts to back at Paro & on entry see the Paro airport bird eye view.
  • After that visit Ta Dzong - National Museum with an excellent collection of arts, relics, religious thangkha, etc.
  • Rinpung Dzong - Meaning "fortress of the heap of jewels". The dzong now serves as the administrative and judicial seat of Paro and proceed to Phuentsholing.
  • Overnight at a hotel in Phuentsholing. 

Day 8:

Departure

  • Drive from Phuentsholing to Bagdogra International Airport and fly out with memories to cherish for a lifetime!
