Passport Seva website says: “This will be applicable to an applicant who has even marginally changed the name or a female who has changed her name or surname after marriage”. According to notification “Annexure K or any marriage certificate would not be required to provide in case of Married applicants,”. “And in the case of separated or divorced persons, the applicant would not be required to provide the name of her/his spouse or even the Divorce Decree in the Passport application form.

But, when you will apply for the passport of a minor, “If a parent(s) hold a valid passport, but spouse name is not endorsed there, then they will need to get the spouse name added in their passport. The ministry has now made it easy for men/women, who are separating or divorced to remove the name of their spouses by just filling an affidavit.

PM stated that his government wants women to be given major importance in all the development schemes, for that they are taking different initiatives to empower women through various schemes such as Ujjwala, Mudra and many others.
